Testing Hybrid Control Systems with TTCN-3 embedded

Workshop ATAMI'10, Berlin, Januar 2010. Jürgen Großmann

The development of secure, comfortable, and flexible systems is more than ever driven by software intensive systems. The development of such systems becomes increasingly complex when we consider distributed real time systems, that, among others show, continuous behavior. These, so called hybrid systems, consist of ordinary software components but additionally show controllers, sensors and actuators that are used to interact with the physical environment.

Accordingly, quality assurance and testing becomes more complex and has a major impact on development costs and the consumption of development resources. To meet the demands of today's and tomorrow's test and development processes, test methods, languages and tools have to provide mature concepts for automation, reusability and efficiency.

In this talk we will provide an overview on extensions of the standardized test specification language TTCN-3 ---namely TTCN-3 embedded--- that addresses the requirements from above. Besides the already established control flow structures of standard TTCN-3, TTCN-3 embedded provides the concepts of stream-based ports, sampling, equation systems, and automaton alike control flow structures to be able to express continuous test behavior. The talk will end with a small example and an overview on the actual development status of dedicated tools and the planning for standardization.
